This complete account of the history of the Chinese lexicography is the first book on the subject that will be published in English. The development of the Chinese lexicography draws up more than three millenia, from the Zhou Dynasty (1046 aC-256 aC) to the Qing dynasty (1616-1911). To reveal how the irruption of the lexicographical culture in old China was tie to the education of old characters, describes the later development of the boots, thesauri and dictionaries of all the main types, including those of the technical dialects and terms.
